Along with all things London kick I've been on this year, I have found a healthy obsession with Jo Malone Fragrance. I always felt it was a little too pricey but then I was generously given several samples to try from Nordstrom. Well kids, that did it! I was officially intrigued. I first fell for Nectarine Blossom & Honey… much like your first love, you may fall for others along the way but you’ll always have a sweet spot for your first. Eventually I found Blackberry & Bay, which is now my daily staple… I have both the large and small sizes of this one so I can travel with it too.
I started buying a new scent monthly from one particular salesgirl who was so passionate about the brand she heightened my love affair with the line. She suggested mixing. What? Why didn't I think of that? So, we started playing and when we found a combo that I liked, I sprayed it and wore it for the day. It was extremely subtle but felt feminine so I bought it before I left the mall – it was Vetyvare and Blue Agave and Cacao. I try not to think of how much I've spent at that counter this year and focus more on how I feel when I am opening each package that they carefully wrap for me even though I tell them each time that ‘it’s not a gift, it’s just for me’ yet they insist anyway. You may not realize how much great packaging and presentation makes you feel but if you visit your local Jo Malone counter you will soon see. Not only do they box each purchase up then place it in a beautifully sturdy and elegant bag, tied neatly with a black ribbon but I have never walked away from a counter without several samples, also beautifully packaged which allows me to keep indulging in new scents. The practical me would never allow all this packaging and samples to be ‘wasted’ however I use each box to store little delicate items like jewels and rings and I carry a variety of samples in my makeup bag to freshen up throughout the day.
My next purchase was a limited edition release, Red Currant & Cream from the Sugar and Spice collection. My only disappointment was that it was only available in the small size – boo. This one I use sparingly because I don’t want it to be gone too soon. They describe this scent as “a summer pudding. Sharp-scarlet juices of redcurrants, lush strawberries and raspberries, rippling through creamy musk. Vivacious and enticing.”
I have also dabbled in room fragrance as well. Actually I was about to cook dinner tonight and sprayed the Lime Basil which inspired me to write this post. Lime Basil and Mandarin and Pomegranate Noir are two scents that I enjoy but find them too strong to wear as a perfume so I use them in the house and they last beautifully for hours just like burning a candle but better because it only takes 3 sprays in a large room and you’ll be enveloped richness for the evening.
