Before I began I shaped my nails into a subtle oval to compliment the design. See my Manicure Basics blog post on how I prep my nails for polish.
Step 1. Apply your favorite Base Coat. (I chose Sally Hansen Strengthening)
Step 2. Apply a thin layer of a metallic gold polish. (I used Deborah Lippman Glamorous Life)
Step 3. In an identical shape your nail only smaller, apply your favorite fall color. (I used Deborah Lippmann Good Girl Gone Bad. It has an incredible shimmer and covers opaquely in only one coat)
Step 4. Before you begin this step you MUST let your polish dry naturally for a few minutes. If you start this step too soon, you will not get clean lines and your glitter will stick to the damp polish.
doo-ta-do... Flip through your newest magazine to pass the time... Ok, now you're ready!
Take a dollop of your gold polish onto a plastic or non porous surface. Uncap your craft store fine glitter and make sure your have a paper towel to clean your dotting tool in between hands. Take your dotting tool with the gold polish and create 3 symmetrical dots vertically in the center of your nail. Next shake some of the gold glitter onto the wet dots. I recommend doing one nail at a time for drying purposes.
When all your fingers are done, gently brush off the excess glitter with a brush (I chose a fan brush that I picked up from the craft store).
Step 5. Apply a generous coat of a fast drying top coat (I chose my all time favorite Seche Vité)
That's it! You're ready to show off your new fall creation!
